Who We Are

The Friends of the Selby Public Library is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the Selby Public Library as a vital community resource. Since our incorporation in 1978, we have worked in partnership with the library to provide advocacy, volunteer power, and crucial funding for programs that enhance literacy and cultural engagement.

We are a volunteer-led group driven by a shared passion for books and community access. Through the operation of our bookstore and various fundraising initiatives, we ensure that the Selby Public Library remains a dynamic centerpiece of Sarasota's Downtown Arts District.

Our Home: Selby Public Library

The Selby Public Library is more than just a collection of books; it is the cornerstone of Sarasota's Downtown Arts District. Since moving to its iconic building in 1998, the library has served as a vibrant community hub, welcoming thousands of visitors each month into its architectural splendor and peaceful reading spaces.

As the home of the Sarasota Music Archive and the heart of local literacy efforts, this 73,000-square-foot facility provides essential resources for researchers, students, and life-long learners. Our bookstore, located within these walls, is proud to support the library's mission by ensuring stories remain accessible to everyone.
