Our Mission

The Friends of the Selby Public Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to partnering with the Selby Public Library to develop services, provide free programs, raise funds, and advocate for library resources that serve the greater Sarasota community.

We believe that access to books and knowledge is not a privilege, but a community right. Our work as a non-profit bookstore is the bridge that connects citizens to the stories and education that help our neighborhood thrive.

Why It Matters

The Cornerstone

The Selby Public Library is the cornerstone of our downtown community, providing essential services and a sanctuary for knowledge seekers. We believe that a vibrant library is vital for a thriving city.

Ensuring Programs

The Friends work tirelessly to ensure library programs are funded and the library doors stay open. Every contribution directly supports the diverse educational and cultural offerings our community relies on.

Community Action

Your support matters. Whether you shop at our bookstore, donate books, volunteer your time, or become a member, you are directly investing in the intellectual and social health of Sarasota.

Who We Serve

We warmly welcome a diverse community of shoppers, donors, volunteers, and members. Our doors and our shelves are open to everyone who shares a love for books and a belief in the power of public libraries.

Whether you are seeking your next great read, looking for a meaningful way to give back, or simply wanting to be part of a vibrant literary circle, there is a place for you here. We serve all who believe that knowledge is a shared community treasure.

How We're Organized

We are a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to our library’s success. Every board position is unpaid, and every dollar raised goes directly back to supporting the library’s essential programs and resources.
